Blood Dungeon Steam Demo
Still on Steam after launch. Use it to test movement, then buy the full box.
Blood Dungeon launched on 25 August 2026, and Steam still lists a demo. That is not a leftover store bug. Messhof left the download up so you can feel wall-cling, auto-fire, and the first Catacombs waves before you pay. This page is the demo map: what the slice is for, what a public demo recording actually shows, and what you should not copy from July footage into a retail save.
The embedded video is Retromation’s public demo session. It is useful for HUD, wall grabs, upgrade cards, and the Dogmancer area. It is not a retail unlock list. The current Steam client, the current tooltips, and the current quest board win every argument.
Why the demo still exists
The full game is a short, dense, single-player bullet-heaven platformer. Movement is the skill check. A trailer cannot tell you whether clinging to a ceiling while bats fill the room feels good on your machine. The demo can. Download it from the Steam store page, run Catacombs, and decide with your hands.
If you already know you want the whole box, skip the demo and open Getting Started. If you are on the fence, stay here, then read How to Play and Controls after one honest death.
What the demo is for
Treat the demo as a movement and loop tester, not as a wiki of the full campaign.
- Movement — wall cling, ceiling travel, jump timing. This is the skill the rest of the game asks for. Details: Movement.
- Auto-fire — you do not aim. You kite. Upgrade cards pause the run so you can read three options.
- Currencies — Blood levels you during a run. Gold opens chests. Bones leave the run with you and go to the Dogmancer. See Loot, Chests, and Keys and Bones & Dogmancer.
- One arena taste — public demo coverage shows Catacombs as the place you enter. Do not assume Flood water, Boiler heat, or later bunkmate kits are in the slice.
Retromation’s recording shows Gun Man-style machinegun fire, bat hunting, ricochet and pierce cards, a Dogmancer visit, and the kind of upgrade text you should re-read in your own client. Pain Gains — lose 10 health in one run — is a real Steam achievement in the retail list; seeing a popup in a demo does not change the Achievements table.
What the demo is not
Do not use demo footage as a shop price list, a bunkmate roster, or a patch note.
- Shop lines such as “More Blood” may appear in a demo. A demo price is not a promise about the retail Bone Shop.
- Nine bunkmates and six named arenas belong to the full game. The demo is allowed to show a handful of weapons and one arena. Official marketing: nine characters, six arenas, 100+ enemies, 100+ quests, 100+ weapons and upgrades.
- Two bunkmates remain unnamed in public materials. The demo will not license you to invent those names.
- Leech is still a Steam trophy (defeat Wyrm in under 30 seconds), not a whip character you unlock in the demo.
When the demo feels good, buy the game and follow the Catacombs plan on Getting Started. Arena spine: Catacombs → Pit → Corridor → Boiler → Tombs → Flood.
Demo versus the paid game
| Topic | Demo | Full game |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Feel movement and auto-fire | Full campaign and meta |
| Arenas | Taste of Catacombs (public recordings) | Six named maps plus Daily |
| Bunkmates | A starter kit, not the roster | Nine bunkmates |
| Bones | Enough to show the Dogmancer | Permanent shop across all runs |
| Achievements | Not the 45-trophy hunt | 45 Steam achievements |
| Soundtrack DLC | Not required to test the loop | Optional Thomas Hoey album |
Steam launch week still had an introductory −15% on the full game ($9.99 to $8.49) scheduled to end 8 September 2026. The demo is free either way. Soundtrack DLC is a separate $4.99 listing (also −15% in that window). Storefront map: Platforms. Album notes: Soundtrack. Xbox access: Game Pass.
How to use one demo hour
- Install from Steam. Confirm keyboard or pad on Controls.
- Enter Catacombs. Survive until the density spike. Die on purpose if you must — Bones still bank in the full game; the demo is teaching the same habit.
- Read every upgrade card. Retromation’s session shows pierce, extra bullets per shot, and ricochet as the kind of text the game actually writes. Pick what your eyes can track, not a tier letter from a fan page.
- Visit the Dogmancer if the demo lets you. Note categories. Do not screenshot a price and treat it as retail law.
- If wall-cling feels right, buy. If it does not, you saved the evening. If you already subscribe on Xbox, check Game Pass instead of a second PC purchase.
After you buy
The demo does not replace How to Play. Retail adds the achievement spine, Daily Dungeon (Vampire Ring / Play the Daily), quest log, and the unpublished bunkmate slots. Hypnomancer still unlocks from the second boss in Boiler, not from a demo tooltip.

Play the demo to answer one question: do you want to climb while the guns fire themselves? If yes, the rest of this wiki assumes you own the box.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is the Blood Dungeon demo still on Steam after launch?
Yes. Steam still lists a demo after the 25 August 2026 release. Use it to test movement and auto-fire before you buy.
Does the demo include all six arenas?
No. Public demo coverage shows Catacombs as the playable taste. The six named arenas and Daily Dungeon belong to the full game.
Can I trust demo shop prices in the retail Bone Shop?
No. Demo tooltips are not a promise about retail prices. Read the Dogmancer in your current client.
Should I play the demo if I already have Game Pass?
Only if you want a Steam-side feel for mouse and keyboard. Ultimate and PC Game Pass already include the full Xbox/PC Game Pass SKU — see the Game Pass page.
