Blood Dungeon Controls
Keyboard, controller, and movement mechanics explained.
Blood Dungeon supports both keyboard and full controller configurations. Understanding every movement option is critical because the game’s difficulty scales with your ability to use the environment — walls, ceilings, ladders, grates, and chains are all traversable and central to survival.
Keyboard controls (default)
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Move left / right | A / D |
| Jump | W or Space |
| Pause / Menu | Escape |
The game uses a single jump button. There is no dedicated wall-jump key — your character automatically jumps off walls when you press jump while touching one.
Controller controls (default)
| Action | Button |
|---|---|
| Move | Left Stick |
| Jump | A (Xbox) / X (PlayStation) |
| Pause / Menu | Menu / Options |
The game has full controller support with button remapping available through Steam input settings. Both DualSense and DualShock controllers are supported.
Movement mechanics
Wall and ceiling climbing
Your character sticks to any solid surface — walls, ceilings, chains, grates, and ladders. While touching a surface, press jump to cling to it. Press jump again to launch off in the direction you are facing.
This mechanic is the core of advanced play:
- Kiting — run along a wall above ground-level enemies so they cannot reach you while your weapons fire down
- Ceiling ambush — position on a ceiling above a chokepoint and fire down at enemies walking underneath
- Escape — when cornered, jump to an adjacent wall and launch off to break enemy clustering
Character-specific movement traits
Beyond the universal wall-climbing system, each character has a unique movement trait:
- Leggy — shoots webs that can be climbed. The webs persist long enough to use as platforms and are especially valuable in the Flood arena’s underwater sections.
- Bug — can take flight, moving through the air freely for a short duration. Flying bypasses ground obstacles and enemy lines entirely.
- Skinja — has a higher base movement speed on flat ground, making them the best pure-speed character.
Accessibility options
Blood Dungeon includes several accessibility features:
- Streamer Mode — disables the brief nudity on two characters. Enable this in settings if you stream or record content.
- Cartoon blood toggle — the game splatters cartoon blood on kills. This can be disabled independently of Streamer Mode.
- Save anywhere — the game supports saving at any point during a run. This is not a quick-save mechanic — it preserves your exact run state to resume later.
- Play without timed input — the game can be configured to remove any timed-input challenges for players who need more time.
- Camera comfort settings — adjustable camera options for players sensitive to movement or scrolling.
- Custom volume controls — independent sliders for music, SFX, and voice.
- Keyboard-only option — the game runs well on keyboard and has a specific input mode optimised for keyboard-only play.
Advanced movement techniques
Chain jumping
Jump between adjacent walls in rapid succession to ascend narrow vertical shafts. This is faster than waiting for a ladder and is essential in arenas with vertical elements.
Ceiling repositioning
When surrounded on the ground, launch to a ceiling, move across it, and drop onto enemies from above. Your weapons fire downward automatically while you move, turning ceiling positions into offensive advantages.
Surface transition drops
When moving from a ceiling to a lower wall, do not press jump — just walk off the edge. This is quieter and faster than launching, and useful when you want to reposition without triggering enemy aggro.
Controller vs keyboard
The game is equally playable on both input methods. Controller is recommended for players who want the analog stick precision for movement and the trigger buttons for jump. Keyboard is viable and supported with a dedicated input mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is there a wall-jump button?
No dedicated wall-jump key. Your character automatically jumps off walls when you press the jump button while touching a wall surface.
Can I remap controller buttons?
Yes, through Steam's input configuration. Both DualSense and DualShock controllers are natively supported.
Does the game have accessibility options?
Yes. Streamer Mode, cartoon blood toggle, save anywhere, play without timed input, camera comfort, custom volume controls, and keyboard-only mode are all available.
What character has the best movement?
It depends on context. Leggy is best for the Flood arena because her webs work underwater. Bug is best for tight corridors. Skinja is fastest on flat open ground.
