Blood Dungeon Loadout Templates
Recommended builds for each character and arena type.
A loadout is the complete set of weapons, upgrades, charms, and equipment you bring into a run. These templates are starting points — the Blood Dungeon meta is young and the community will refine optimal builds over time.
General loadout principles
Every strong loadout shares these properties:
- Close-range coverage — a melee circling weapon (whip or sword) or a high-damage close-range weapon
- Ranged coverage — a Machine Gun, Laser, or Magnum for chip damage at range
- Area denial — a Grenade or Gas Grenade for high-density wave phases
- Defensive layer — extra hearts, shield power-ups, or Oxygen Tank (for Flood arena)
You rarely need all four in one loadout. Adjust based on the arena and character.
Barbarian loadouts
Starter build (default weapons)
- Primary: Dual Swords (default)
- Secondary: Machine Gun (drop)
- Priority upgrades: Machine Gun damage > weapon slot > dual sword upgrades
- Playstyle: Use walls and ceilings to stay above enemies while Machine Gun chips down threats. Swords handle anything that gets close.
Baby loadouts
Magnum sniper build
- Primary: Magnum (default)
- Secondary: Grenade (drop)
- Priority upgrades: Magnum damage > Magnum reload speed > Grenade blast radius
- Playstyle: Stay at maximum range. Magnum provides consistent single-target damage while Grenade handles clustered adds. Extra gold from Baby accelerates Bone income.
Note: Baby is widely recommended as the first character unlock because the magnum is effective without build synergy.
Gun Man loadouts
Starter machinegun build
- Primary: Machinegun (default)
- Secondary: Circling swords or shotgun (drop)
- Priority upgrades: Machinegun fire rate > damage > weapon slot
- Playstyle: Keep moving, let the stream cover mid range, add a close weapon if packs collapse. This is the first-hour kit PC Gamer and IGN treat as the start.
Leggy loadouts
Flood arena specialist
- Primary: Web Guns (default)
- Secondary: Magnum or Laser (drop)
- Priority upgrades: Web Gun upgrade (climb speed) > ranged weapon damage > Oxygen Tank
- Playstyle: The Web Guns are primarily a movement tool in the Flood arena. Use webs to traverse waterlogged sections where other characters are slowed. Pair with a strong ranged weapon for damage output.
General arena build
- Primary: Web Guns
- Secondary: Machine Gun
- Playstyle: Use webs for vertical repositioning and emergency platforms. Machine Gun handles general combat. Less specialised in non-Flood arenas.
Bug loadouts
Flight + burst damage
- Primary: TBD (verify default weapon)
- Secondary: Laser
- Priority upgrades: Flight duration (if upgradeable) > Laser damage > weapon slot
- Playstyle: Fly over enemy clusters to reach safe positions or chests. Laser provides consistent damage while in the air. The flight trait is the primary value — weapon loadout is secondary.
Skinja loadouts
Speed kite build
- Primary: TBD (verify default weapon)
- Secondary: Machine Gun
- Priority upgrades: Movement speed > Machine Gun fire rate > weapon slot
- Playstyle: Use high base speed to kite enemies across open arenas. Keep moving, stay at range, let Machine Gun chip away. The speed advantage means enemies struggle to cluster on you.
Arena-specific adjustments
Flood arena
Add the Oxygen Tank charm to your loadout. It reduces breath depletion in water, which is the primary environmental hazard in the Flood arena.
Boiler arena
The Boiler arena has the game’s hardest boss (second form). Prioritise area denial (Grenade or Gas Grenade) to handle adds that spawn during phase transitions.
Later arenas
Advanced arenas require more defensive investment. Add extra hearts and consider Shield power-ups over additional damage upgrades.
Upgrade priority summary by role
| Role | Priority 1 | Priority 2 | Priority 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ranged DPS | Weapon damage | Reload speed | Weapon slot |
| Melee safety | Weapon damage | Attack speed | Weapon slot |
| Area denial | Blast radius | Damage | Cooldown |
| Movement | Speed | Jump height | Weapon slot |
| Defensive | Extra hearts | Shield | Oxygen Tank |
Adjusting templates
These templates are starting points. As you unlock more weapons and learn which upgrades you find most often, adjust your loadout priorities accordingly. The Weapons Tier List has full upgrade paths for each weapon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What loadout should I use for the Flood arena?
Add the Oxygen Tank charm to any loadout for the Flood arena. Leggy is the best character for Flood because her webs work underwater. Pair with a strong ranged weapon like the Magnum or Laser.
What is the easiest loadout for beginners?
Gun Man with machinegun plus a close-range drop (swords or shotgun) is the easiest first-hour kit. Stay moving and add coverage as drops appear.
How many weapon slots should I aim for?
Two weapon slots is the minimum for a complete loadout (close-range + ranged). Four slots is the maximum and is worth aiming for in long-term progression.
Can I change my loadout mid-run?
No. Your loadout is fixed at the start of each run. Choose weapons and upgrades before entering the arena.
