\n\n## How to use\n\nClick on a character portrait to add them to the comparison. Click again to remove them. Up to three characters can be compared simultaneously. The table updates automatically as you make selections. Use this when choosing a new character to unlock at the Dogmancer, or when deciding which of your current characters fits a specific arena.\n\n## All characters overview\n\n| Character | Default Weapon | Movement Trait | Best For | Notes |\n|-----------|--------------|--------------|----------|-------|\n| Barbarian | Dual Swords | None | Learning the game | Solid starter — good for learning movement patterns and weapon feel |\n| Baby | Magnum | Extra gold per run | Gold-focused progression | Passive gold bonus makes Baby efficient for Bone farming |\n| Gun Man | Machinegun | Standard | First hours | PC Gamer and IGN treat as the starting character |\n| Leggy | Web Guns | Climable webs (works underwater) | Flood arena | Webs are unique — Leggy is the only character who can shoot climbable webs |\n| Bug | Not named publicly | Flight | Tight corridors | Official marketing: Bug flies |\n| Skinja | Shotgun | Cartwheels and speed | Open arenas | Official marketing |\n| Hypnomancer | Gas | Not named publicly | Boiler / Corridor | Unlock: second Boiler boss |\n| Two unnamed | Unpublished | Unpublished | — | Do not invent names |\n\n## Choosing your first character\n\nAll nine characters are viable for completing the game. If you are unsure whom to play first, learn Gun Man or Barbarian, then unlock Baby. Do not hunt Leech: it is a Steam achievement, not a bunkmate. Baby also has a passive gold bonus that makes Bone farming slightly faster.\n\nBarbarian comes free and is a perfectly capable starter. Dual Swords gives you two projectiles from the start, which is a meaningful damage baseline. Do not feel pressured to buy a character immediately — the Dogmancer is always available between runs.\n\n## Character traits explained\n\nEach character’s movement trait is as important as their default weapon. Bug’s flight is powerful in corridors where ground characters get pinned. Leggy’s climbable webs are uniquely effective in the Flood arena where other characters slow down in water. Skinja’s speed makes her the best choice for open arenas where kiting is the primary survival strategy.\n\nHypnomancer’s movement trait is TBD (to be determined) as of launch. Check the community wiki for verified information as players map all character traits.\n\n## Comparing weapons\n\nDefault weapons matter most in the early game before you have Bones to spend on upgrades. A strong default weapon lets you survive longer without investment, which means more Blood collected and more Bones banked per run. Gun Man’s machinegun and Baby’s magnum are the strong public defaults. Barbarian’s circling swords teach melee. Barbarian’s Dual Swords fires two projectiles simultaneously, effectively doubling your starting firepower.\n\n## Tips\n\n- Use the comparison tool before spending Bones at the Dogmancer to avoid buyer’s regret\n- Default weapon strength is most relevant for your first ten runs before you have upgrade options\n- Movement trait matters more than default weapon in arena-specific scenarios\n- Some characters require more upgrades to feel strong — factor this into your purchase priority\n\nNote: Default weapons and movement traits marked TBD have not been fully verified through community gameplay. These will be updated as the community maps all characters. Check the Blood Dungeon community hub for the latest verified information.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I compare more than three characters?

No. The tool limits comparison to three characters simultaneously to keep the display readable on all screen sizes.

Is data saved between sessions?

No. Character selection resets when you refresh the page. No data is stored anywhere.

What does TBD mean?

TBD means the specific weapon or trait has not been fully verified through community gameplay yet. These will be updated as players map all characters.

Should I buy a new character or upgrade existing ones first?

Generally, weapon slots and extra hearts at the Dogmancer give more immediate power than buying a new character. Buy characters when you have a clear reason to prefer one playstyle over another.
